Denise Zaverdas, E-RYT 500
For over 25 years, Denise has been a devoted yoga teacher, with infused passion, creativity, and a deep reverence for the practice. With a B.S. in Kinesiology, an enduring fascination with the intelligence of the human body, and the curiosity of a lifelong seeker, she shares from a place of lived experience—shaped by years of exploration, inquiry, learning, and unlearning.
Rooted in a rich blend of disciplines, her teaching emphasizes spirit, breath, structure, strength, and fluidity, while gently guiding students into presence and present-moment awareness. Through this attunement, the practice becomes not just something we do, but a space we inhabit—where clarity, sensitivity, and deeper listening can unfold. Often described as a “teacher’s teacher,” Denise invites students inward, cultivating an intimate connection with their own inner teacher and innate wisdom.
A perpetual student herself, Denise views Yoga as a practice of relationship: the inner relationship with Self and Spirit, and the outer relationship with fellow travelers and the world around us. Her classes are thoughtfully crafted as moving meditations—an intentional unfolding that leads toward stillness, reflection, and seated meditation. Within this space, she encourages the recognition that presence itself is transformative, and that each moment offers an opportunity to return, realign, and reconnect.
Denise believes that each of us has the capacity, regardless of external circumstances, to cultivate inner harmony—an inner coherence that naturally extends outward, creating a ripple effect of balance and connection.
She has guided practitioners of all levels across a range of styles, including Ashtanga, Forrest, Yin, Restorative, Therapeutic, and Vinyasa Yoga. Alongside 30 years of dedicated personal practice and study, she has spent many years serving her local community and brings extensive experience in yoga studio leadership. For over 12 years, first as Assistant Director of the Santa Barbara Yoga Center and later as founder of Montecito Yoga - she has facilitated and led workshops and teacher trainings at both the 200-hour and 300-hour levels.
Denise holds a special passion for supporting beginners and those with unique needs, skillfully adapting the practice to meet each individual. Her work reflects a deep commitment to making the transformative power of Yoga accessible to all, regardless of experience or ability.
